A Maryland man allegedly stole a 3-month-old tuxedo kitten named Magnolia from Pet Supplies Plus on Baltimore Avenue in Prince George County, California. According to Stephanie Stullich of Beltsville Community Cats rescue, pet store employees reported the kitten missing from the adoption area around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15th, 2026.

Security footage obtained by NBC Washington shows a man wearing a light-colored T-shirt and black beanie entering the pet store and quickly leaving carrying the kitten. The suspect then carried Magnolia into a nearby bank, asked an employee to hold the kitten, and handed a teller a note demanding cash.

Prince George's County police arrested the suspect, and Magnolia was found safe and unharmed. The robbery was unsuccessful. Magnolia, described by Beltsville Community Cats as a "true purr machine," remains available for adoption and is "looking for a law-abiding citizen with a lot of love in their heart."

Witnesses noted the significant police response to the incident, with one saying, "I immediately saw all of these police cars, and I thought, 'Wow, that's a heck of a response for a stolen cat.'" Another remarked, "But then I realized they all were going down to the bank."
