TOKYO — Eight of Japan's leading power companies have announced plans to build or expand 30 substations across the country. This initiative aims to strengthen transmission capacity in anticipation of growing electricity needs driven by new artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

Among the companies involved, a subsidiary of Kansai Electric Power will focus on expanding substations in the cities of Kobe and Osaka. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to quickly increase power infrastructure capacity and lay the groundwork for future technology investments.

This nationwide project reflects the increasing energy demands associated with AI technologies and the importance of upgrading power distribution systems to support this growth.
