Lindy Li, a former top Democratic fundraiser, has sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to publish a memoir explaining his 2024 reelection bid. Li argues that Biden’s upcoming book, titled Promise Me, America, will only reopen painful wounds that Democrats have struggled to move past since their 2024 election loss.

Li, who is releasing her own book Unburdened later this year, described Biden’s presidency and memoir as a microcosm of broader party difficulties. She said that prior to her departure from the Democratic Party, many within the party wanted nothing to do with Biden, citing concerns about his age and cognitive performance. According to Li, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) routinely confiscated phones from top donors with social media followings to hide these concerns.

She also noted the lack of fanfare when Biden exited on July 21, 2026, with only a small staff gathering in the Rose Garden. Li criticized Jill Biden’s role, saying, "Jill has him writing books that no one wants to read instead of fully enjoying his retirement." She added, "He should have been in retirement 10, 20 years ago, but they need the money."

Outkick founder Clay Travis echoed similar sentiments, writing that Democrats forced Biden to release the book after the midterms to avoid negative news coverage reminding the public of his perceived failures.

Biden’s memoir reportedly addresses "the challenges we face as a nation," and explains "the decisions I made and why I made them," including why he chose to run for reelection and why he ultimately stepped aside.
