After five years away from the Octagon, Conor McGregor's highly anticipated UFC return ended abruptly when a knee injury forced a stoppage just 69 seconds into his fight against Max Holloway on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Las Vegas.

McGregor started aggressively, attempting a running kick and a head kick, but slipped both times due to the apparent injury. Despite trying to continue, he grabbed his right leg again, prompting referee Mike Beltran to call the fight early.

In the aftermath, McGregor shared an emotional message on Instagram, stating, "Destroyed. I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell."

However, he also made a three-word promise to fans, posting, "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. We'll be back. Let's go," while showcasing his new energy drink.

UFC president Dana White commented on the injury, saying he suspected McGregor suffered a "blown ACL."
