On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Bangladesh authorities announced the confiscation of assets worth approximately 760 billion taka (about US$6.2 billion) connected to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her family, and 10 business groups. These seizures include 570 billion taka held within Bangladesh and 190 billion taka overseas, according to the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit.

Since Hasina was toppled in a student-led mass uprising in 2024 and fled to India, investigations have targeted her wealth, relatives, and major business groups accused of benefiting during her 15-year tenure. The agency's chief, Ikhtiar Mohammad Mamun, told reporters that 98 cases have been opened as part of these investigations and that efforts continue to recover money laundered overseas.

Hasina has remained in India since August 2024 and recently stated her intention to return to Bangladesh by the end of 2026. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the government, which has sought her extradition, aims to ensure she returns to face justice. He added that the court will decide if there is any scope for an appeal regarding the verdict.
