Bangladesh has introduced Bangla QR, a nationwide interoperable QR code payment system designed to unify the country's fragmented digital payment landscape. This initiative enables customers of any participating bank or mobile financial service to pay any merchant by scanning a single QR code, consolidating previously incompatible payment systems.

The rollout is part of a broader effort to reduce Bangladesh's reliance on cash, formalize its extensive informal economy, and accelerate financial inclusion. By simplifying digital transactions, Bangla QR is expected to increase tax revenue and support the government's push toward a cashless economy.
