A federal agent, Deputy US Marshal Drew Hanson, was fatally shot on Monday, July 14, 2026, while participating in a joint law enforcement operation to arrest Clarence Frazier Jr. in Alexandria, Louisiana. Frazier, 48, had failed to appear for his sexual battery trial.

According to the US Justice Department, US marshals and local sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant for Frazier’s home and identified themselves upon arrival. Authorities forced entry after finding Frazier barricaded in his bedroom. Frazier allegedly opened fire, mortally wounding Hanson.

Officials reported that Frazier was injured during the standoff and taken to a hospital for treatment. Clarence Frazier Jr. has been charged with murder and could face life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted.

Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche issued a statement saying Hanson “paid the ultimate price while protecting our communities.” Hanson is among more than 200 US marshals and related personnel who have died in the line of duty since 1794, according to the agency’s roll of honor.
