Australian swimmer Shayna Jack has announced she will retire from competitive swimming at the end of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled to take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2.

Jack has had a distinguished career, winning gold medals as part of Australia's relay teams at the Olympic Games, world championships, and Commonwealth Games. She secured her first Commonwealth Games gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay at Birmingham in 2018. At her first Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, she won gold medals in both the women's 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays.

Her career also included a 24-month competition ban after the detection of the banned substance Ligandrol in her system.

In a video posted on social media alongside her coach Dean Boxall, Jack expressed that she is leaving the sport with her head held high after a career filled with ups and downs. She said, "I'm extremely proud of everything I've achieved in my swimming career," and added, "I'm not just proud of medals or the world records. That's never what I swam for. I'm really proud of what swimming made me."

Jack also shared her anticipation for the upcoming Games, stating, "I cannot wait to finish at the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow."
