A towel and screwdriver recovered during the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s assassination allegedly contained the DNA of Tyler Robinson, the suspected killer, and his former lover and roommate, Lance Twiggs. Robinson, 23, is accused of fatally shooting the 31-year-old Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

During the preliminary hearing at the Fourth Judicial District Courthouse in Provo, Utah, prosecutors presented surveillance video purportedly showing Robinson moving around campus before and after the shooting and using a Dodge Challenger. The suspected murder weapon had been retrofitted to fire .30-06 rounds, matching bullet fragments found during Kirk’s autopsy.

In an emotional moment during the hearing, Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, comforted a crying woman in the courtroom gallery, highlighting the personal toll of the case. The Kirk family has been allowed to leave the courtroom during particularly painful testimony.

Donald Trump Jr. commented on the hearing, stating that the evidence was "much more cut and dry" than he had expected. He expressed confidence that Robinson would be found guilty once the case concludes, calling the outcome "very clear."

The preliminary hearing began on July 6, 2026, and is expected to continue throughout the week as prosecutors establish probable cause for charges including aggravated murder, which carries the potential death penalty.
