Vast crowds loyal to the Islamic Republic gathered in Tehran on Sunday for the funeral ceremony of Iran's former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes at the start of the war.
The funeral was attended by three of Ali Khamenei's sons—Masoud, Mostafa, and Meysam—while his second son and successor, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, was notably absent.
According to Iranian state media, six days of ceremonies will take place across various locations in Iran and neighboring Iraq. The late ayatollah is scheduled to be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday.
The BBC's chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet reported from Tehran under the condition that her material not be used by the BBC's Persian Service, reflecting restrictions on international media operating in Iran.
