FIFA announced on July 6, 2026, that the automatic match suspension for United States striker Folarin Balogun has been suspended for a probationary period of one year. This decision came after Balogun received a red card during the World Cup round of 32 match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, which would have otherwise barred him from playing in the upcoming round of 16 match against Belgium.

According to a report from The New York Times, former President Donald Trump contacted FIFA president Gianni Infantino following the United States' victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina, requesting a review of Balogun's red card. Shortly after FIFA's announcement, Trump posted on Truth Social, "Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice!"

FIFA's official statement on their website cited Article 27 FDC in suspending the implementation of Balogun's automatic match suspension for a probationary period of one year. This development ensures that Balogun remains eligible to participate in the United States Men's National Team's continued World Cup campaign.

The United States recently celebrated its 250th anniversary, with the national team’s performance adding to the festivities. The suspension reversal is seen as a significant boost for the team as they advance in the tournament.
