Two individuals, identified as Russian rooftoppers Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, were arrested on July 1, 2026, after climbing to the very pinnacle of New York City's Empire State Building, well above the public access level. The pair conducted an apparent marriage proposal atop the skyscraper's spire.
Both were dressed in black clothing and appeared masked. They unfurled a large black banner displaying the message: “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
Nikolau and Beerkus are known for similar stunts in other cities, including Tianjin, China, and Los Angeles. Authorities charged them following the incident.
