Vice President JD Vance condemned the Supreme Court's recent ruling affirming birthright citizenship, describing it as "atrocious" and "a major, major mistake." In an interview on "The Ingraham Angle" on Tuesday, Vance warned that the decision could incentivize more people to exploit the nation's immigration system by coming to the United States to give birth, thereby granting citizenship and benefits to their children and families.

The Supreme Court ruled against former President Donald Trump's Executive Order 14160, which sought to end birthright citizenship, holding that it conflicted with the 14th Amendment's guarantee of automatic citizenship for most individuals born in the United States. Vance expressed disappointment with the ruling, stating, "This is a very disappointing ruling from the Supreme Court," while acknowledging respect for the Court's decision.

He further noted that many legal experts anticipated the case would be decided against Trump's position by a wide margin, possibly 7–2 or 8–1. Vance also suggested that the Court's narrow opinion indicates that birthright citizenship remains a contentious issue.

The ruling comes amid a series of upcoming Supreme Court decisions that could impact former President Trump's second-term agenda. Meanwhile, naturalization ceremonies continue across the country, such as one held at George Washington's Mount Vernon in July 2025.
