US envoys met with Qatari mediators in Doha on June 30, 2026, to discuss negotiations with Iran, according to the Gulf state. This meeting follows a memorandum of understanding agreed upon earlier in the month between Tehran and Washington aimed at ending the Middle East war.

Iran confirmed sending a team to Doha but contradicted US President Donald Trump's claim that direct talks between the US and Iran would take place. Qatar also stated that no high-level meetings or direct talks between the longtime adversaries were planned.

Following a social media post, a spokeswoman told Fox News that US envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner were scheduled to fly to Doha for high-level meetings. Qatar's foreign ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari confirmed their presence in Doha but clarified, "they are not here for their negotiations with the Iranians."

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that steps to unfreeze Iranian funds were underway, with $6 billion expected to be released out of $12 billion frozen by US sanctions. Meanwhile, US Central Command reported attacking 10 Iranian military targets on June 28 over "continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping."

In a televised interview, Gharibabadi noted that "when a war of this magnitude comes to an end... it is inevitable that there will be implementation challenges, incidents, and differences of opinion, especially where parties such as the Israeli regime are concerned."

The discussions in Doha are expected to cover all regional issues, including negotiations with Iran and matters related to Lebanon, and are slated to continue across all areas of the memorandum of understanding.
