The Fifth Edition of the Barnett/Blackman casebook is scheduled for publication around December 2026, targeting adoption for the Spring 2027 semester. The edition will feature a substantially edited version of the Trump v. Slaughter case, reducing the original 108 pages to 31 pages.

Several chapters are being finalized immediately after the current academic term ends. Notably, the Second Amendment chapter will incorporate recent cases Hemani and Wolford, alongside a shortened excerpt from Heller and a likely reduced section on Bruen. However, it is regrettable that the Supreme Court's decision on the AR-15 case will not be available before the book goes to print.

The casebook will also address birthright citizenship, potentially adding it to the chapter on the Reconstruction Amendments. The Slaughter decision is expected to significantly impact the separation of powers chapter. Additionally, the excerpt from Morrison v. Olson will be shortened, primarily by trimming Rehnquist's majority opinion.

These updates reflect ongoing efforts to keep the casebook current with recent legal developments and Supreme Court rulings.
