A day after the Supreme Court upheld the constitutional guarantee of birthright citizenship, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced plans to intensify efforts against "birth tourism" in the United States. Birth tourism refers to tourists, temporary visitors, and undocumented immigrants traveling to the US to give birth, thereby securing citizenship for their children.

Blanche stated that federal prosecutors and law enforcement officers will prioritize combating this practice. He emphasized that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the federal government can implement measures within the visa and application processes to reduce opportunities for individuals who come to the US not for tourism but to have a child who automatically gains US citizenship.

Despite birth tourism accounting for less than 1% of babies born in the US yearly, Blanche's remarks signal a crackdown on this phenomenon.
