Fifth-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur reached the second round of Wimbledon with a commanding 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, 6-0 victory over Argentina's Roman Andres Burruchaga. After a tight opening-set tiebreak, de Minaur took full control, conceding just one game in the final two sets.

De Minaur's next opponent will be French veteran Adrian Mannarino, who defeated compatriot Titouan Droguet 6-2, 6-4, 6-1.

The Australian men's contingent had a challenging day overall. James Duckworth was the only other Australian victor, beating Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Meanwhile, Thanasi Kokkinakis lost in five sets to 10th seed Alexander Bublik. Dane Sweeny and Alexei Popryin were defeated in straight sets by former semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov and Jiří Lehečka, respectively. Rinky Hijikata also exited after a five-set loss to Jesper de Jong in a match paused and resumed due to bad light.

In other notable results, American fourth seed Ben Shelton was upset by Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen, ranked 140th in the world, in a five-set thriller. Alexander Zverev advanced past Belgium's Alexander Blockx in a match moved to centre court following an injury withdrawal.

Reflecting on his career, a 41-year-old Australian player, who made his grand slam breakthrough at the 2014 Australian Open and won titles at the French Open and US Open, announced plans to retire at the end of 2026. He said, "I don't want to retire, but I know it's time," adding, "It's never easy to say goodbye to something you love so much."
