The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran was challenged on June 27, 2026, when the US military resumed strikes against Iranian targets, citing an alleged violation of the truce. President Trump described the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’s attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz as a “foolish violation” of the 60-day ceasefire.

The US military targeted Iran’s coastal radar installations and missile and drone storage facilities. In response, Tehran launched a drone strike early the next morning on Bahrain, a country hosting US forces. Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, speaker of Bahrain’s Council of Representatives, strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “flagrant violation” of Bahrain’s sovereignty.

Meanwhile, after Beirut accepted a US-backed framework agreement with Israel calling for the disarmament of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia, Hezbollah’s leader declared the deal “null and void.”
